People who like rocks see cool rocks everywhere. People who like birds see interesting birds everywhere. The tree on your yard could be an exceptional specimen. The world around you could be amazing and magical, but you aren’t enough of a nerd to see it.

I gave my mum Alexandra Horowitz’s On Looking: Eleven Walks Through Expert Eyes for her birthday this year, it’s a book that revolves around this idea: the author invites 11 specialists in different things to walk around a boring city block with her one after the other so they can point out to her the things they see, that she doesn’t notice. There’s an expert in typography talking about what the variety of fonts on urban signs can tell you about the city’s history, an entomologist pointing out all the urban insects no one pays attention to, a geologist, a sound engineer…

Baby boomers: why don’t millennials just work 2 jobs?
Minimum wage jobs: ok so we need at least 4 full days of availability, must work holidays, can’t request a set schedule, must work weekends, and you will never know what day or what time you are gonna work until the schedule comes out :)
Millennials: so we’ll get the schedule two weeks in advance right?
Minimum wage job: nah
Millennials: so when will we get it?
Minimum wage job: it’s a surprise :)
My mom: just give them a copy of your schedule! I’m sure they will work around it!
My second job one week in: okay so can you just work for us and not bother with your first job?
Me: can you provide full time work at ten dollars an hour with benefits.
My second job: haha no but can you quit your job?
You need experience to get a job.
Oh and to get experience you need a job.
As well as the minimal wage in this area is not survivable off of, and you need roommates to get into anywhere.
Like a single person making wages even higher than minimum still can’t afford a single bedroom apartment.
😒😒😒
Caplitalisms’ death spiral is now.
When it falls apart it will hurt a hell of a lot before we can fix things and work for better.
Problem: not feeling at all like a girl today, and my long hair makes me look entirely too feminine
Solution: channel Legolas and pretend I am androgynous elven royalty
listen to yourself and watch your language.
instead of saying “sorry for ranting”, say “thank you for listening to me”.
instead of saying “sorry that i am overemotional”, say “thank you for trying to understand something difficult”.
instead of saying “sorry if i am a burden”, say “thank you for the time and energy you invest in our friendship”.
good things will come when you realize you are not an apology.
